Happy 100th, Mr. Schultz! Community comes together to celebrate resident’s milestone birthday

Submitted photo

William “Bill” R. Schultz was born in Lima, Ohio, on Sept. 11, 1923. A century later, family, friends and area residents celebrated his 100th birthday in Stow. The event was held Sept. 8 at the Vitalia Stow retirement community, where he resides, and included a commemorative speech by Stow Mayor John Pribonic followed by a party celebrating Schultz’ life and legacy.

Kaitlynn Holley, memory care director at Vitalia Stow, said: “Bill is a cherished member of this community, and we are thrilled that Mayor Pribonic, as well as friends and family from near and far, were able to come together to celebrate his remarkable life and the continued impact he has on all those who have been fortunate enough to know him.”

  • Schultz and his wife Patricia were together for 72 years until her death in 2021. The pair raised two children, Janet Patricia and Gerald William, and have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Before moving to Vitalia Stow, Schultz and his wife lived in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls and Chillicothe as well as Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Tyler, Texas.

  • He worked at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in various managerial roles for 35 years before retiring in 1985. After retirement, he discovered a love for woodworking and was an avid golfer and tennis player well into his ‘90s. Schultz was also a dedicated member of several area churches.

  • So what’s his secret to reaching 100? “My family, and my daughter specifically, have been my guiding light,” he said. “I have learned not to try to be too in control of everything — sometimes you have to be — but you can’t worry about everything,” Schultz said.

Chamber kicking off GoLocal initiative with Fall Foodie Tour throughout October

By Julie McLain, Executive Director

The Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Fall Foodie Tour this October! This event will feature 20 locally owned and operated restaurants from Oct. 1-31. This is a perfect way to get out in the community and try a new place to eat or go back to an old favorite!

Community members will be able to download a Fall Foodie Tour Passport from the Chamber website (www.smfcc.com) and visit a minimum of six or more participating restaurants during the month of October. Participants then return the completed passport to the Chamber office (P.O. Box 2714, Stow, Ohio 44224), and they will be entered to win a GoLocal gift card. A GoLocal gift card is a specialty e-gift card that customers can use at participating restaurants and businesses in the community. A full list of participating GoLocal businesses and the Fall Foodie Passport can be found at www.smfcc.com.

This event is the first in our series for the GoLocal program, a new initiative to support our locally owned, independent small business members to keep local dollars local and boost our local economy – a WIN-WIN for everyone.

We are very excited for this event to kick off and hope you will join us in participating this fall and GoLocal in Stow and Munroe Falls! To learn more, please visit www.smfcc.com or call the Chamber of Commerce office at (330) 688-1579.
