🔦 Cedar Point assault
Three local middle school girls were allegedly assaulted at Cedar Point by a Shaker Heights boy in line-cutting incident

Today is May 22, 2025.
Good morning! It’s been a wet week, and it’s going to be more of the same today. It’ll be breezy this morning with occasional rain and drizzle throughout the day, and temps will be cooler with a high of just 53 degrees and a low of 45. And your Memorial Day forecast for Monday, May 26: Cool with periods of clouds and sunshine, with 62 the high and 48 the low — certainly good enough for those ceremonies and cookouts as long as that 25% chance of rain doesn’t start to climb.

A dark and stormy night: Last weekend’s wicked weather knocked out power in some areas
Those severe storms that ripped through Northeast Ohio during the overnight hours of Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 left tens of thousands of residents without power throughout the region, with some not seeing a return of service until Monday, May 19.
Summit County seemed to be the hardest hit by the storms. FirstEnergy reported that over 35,000 customers in Summit County were among the approximately 50,000 Northeast Ohio customers that were impacted.
Our area was included in that total:
In Stow, Mayor John Pribonic posted on Facebook May 17 that outages in the city were primarily in “portions around Silver Springs.”
Residents in that area experienced episodes of intermittent service beginning the night of the storm and lasting into Sunday as crews worked to restore power, with Pribonic posting: “We are working closely with First Energy, there are many issues associated with this outage.”
Meanwhile, in Silver Lake, Mayor Therese Dunphy reported the afternoon of Saturday, May 17 that as of that morning, an estimated 45 homes in the village were still without power. Dunphy posted on Facebook that she had “spoken with our First Energy rep to ensure all that can be done is being done to restore power.”
There were no reports of tornadoes associated with these storms in Northeast Ohio.

The Village of Silver Lake Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony will be held Monday, May 26 at the Veterans Tribute Garden, located adjacent to Village Hall at 2961 Kent Rd. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with the ceremony set to begin at 11 a.m.
Parking will be available in the upper parking lot between Village Hall and the Church in Silver Lake.
The village also reminds residents that new brick orders for the Veterans Tribute Garden are being accepted through the end of May. Order forms will be available at the Memorial Day ceremony and are also available at villageofsilverlake.com. The village will only place the orders once it reaches the 25-brick minimum for the order.
