• Good morning! All in all, it looks like we’re in for a nice Memorial weekend. Today, we’re forecast to have a passing shower in the morning; otherwise, it’ll be partly sunny and warm, with a high of 79 degrees and a low of 56. The weekend looks warm and mostly dry, then the weather takes a bit of a turn for Memorial Day on Monday when it’ll be mostly cloudy and windy with a couple of showers possible and a high of 76. So it could be hit-and-miss for those ceremonies and cookouts.
  

• SILVER LAKE MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: The Village of Silver Lake will hold a short Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27 at the Veterans Tribute Garden, located adjacent to Village Hall at 2961 Kent Rd. The ceremony is open to the public. In the event of heavy rain, the service will be moved inside Village Hall. Order forms will be available for brick pavers to be added to the Veterans Tribute Garden. Orders must be placed no later than Monday, June 10.

A look ahead: Some important dates on SMF schools’ 2024-25 calendar

With the 2023-24 school year about over, it’s time to shift gears into what’s next: summer fun, family vacations, life after high school and — gulp — next school year. So without further ado, here are the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District’s 2024-25 calendar highlights:

First days of school:

• Aug. 16: First teacher day.

• Aug. 26: First day for grades 1-5, 7 and 9.

• Aug. 27: All grades 1-12 attend.

• Aug. 30: First day kindergarten.

• Sept. 3: First day preschool.

School breaks:

• Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 27-29.

• Winter Break: Dec. 20-Jan. 3.

• Spring Break: March 24-28.

The Back 2 School Bash will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, while Alumni Homecoming Weekend begins Friday, Sept. 27.
