🔦 The colored water is normal

Just a few extra minerals. Plus, Super Bowl Charcuterie, coffee drive, Raccoon Run and more

Today is Jan. 20, 2023.

  • Good morning! It's going to be cloudy, windy and colder today with snow showers, but we're expecting little to no accumulation. High today will be 36 degrees, with a low tonight of 30. Sounds pretty tame for January, but be wary today: Pockets of heavier snow can cause slippery travel and reduced visibility, and winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Aside from Sunday, when we're expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow, not much in the way of accumulation is forecast through at least next Thursday -- a nice little respite in the middle of winter.

Latest news in brief

Attention Silver Lake residents: Want lake privileges this summer? Take your sealed bid to Village Hall by Jan. 31

If you live in Silver Lake and are interested in bidding on lake privileges, here's your chance: Sealed bids are now being accepted from residents for the right to use the lake associated with a lot owned by the Village of Silver Lake. Only village residents are allowed to offer a bid.

The highest bidder will be able to use the lake through the 2023 swimming season and must pay the village for the lake rights as well as the annual assessment (regardless of whether they use the lake). The 2023 annual assessment amount is $423.37.

The resident who attains the rights earns privileges for use of the picnic grounds, boathouse, beach and swimming.

Bids will be received in the office of the Clerk-Treasurer at Silver Lake Village Hall (2961 Kent Rd.) until noon Tuesday, Jan. 31. Each bid should be labeled "lake right bid" and contain the names of the bidders.
