Everything you need to know about the Darrow Road Reconstruction Project and the Kent Road Traffic Signal Project

Today is April 10, 2025.
Morning, all! The calendar says spring, but the weather has screamed winter with those snowy nights in the mid-20s earlier this week. Today, it’ll be a little more springlike: Breezy in the morning, chilly with periods of rain, a high of 49 and a low of 36. Not balmy, but an improvement over the first part of the week.
MAY 6 PRIMARY ELECTION: Early voting for the May 6 Primary Election began April 8 and runs through Sunday, May 4 at the Summit County Board of Elections Early Vote Center, located at 500 Grant St. in Akron. Regular business hours for the Summit County Board of Elections are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; voting hours Sunday, May 4 are 1 to 5 p.m. Polls will be open on primary day May 6 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Go to this page for more information.
SILVER LAKE WATER MAIN BREAK: The Village of Silver Lake reported April 3 that thanks to a watchful resident, the village was able to quickly address a water main break in the vicinity of 2970 Silver Lake Blvd. The resident called Village Hall that morning “to alert us of some unusual water bubbling after the rain had stopped,” the village posted on its Facebook page. “The Service Department was sent out and discovered a water main break. This ‘see something, say something’ action will not only allow the Service Department to begin the repair quickly, but should also save a lot of water!” The break forced the closure of Bellaire Road from Silver Lake Boulevard to Overlook Road.

May Primary Election
Primary ballot features Stow Municipal Court judge race, Ohio Issue 2
It’s a pretty thin primary for those of us in The Spotlight’s coverage area, with only one local candidate race on the May 6 ballot: the Stow Municipal Court judge race between Republicans Cynthia Curtin and John Chapman.
Curtin has over 35 years of experience as an attorney and has served as chair and vice chair of the Hudson Planning Commission. Chapman, meanwhile, has withdrawn as a candidate, but his name will still appear on the ballot.
Something we will all see on the primary ballot is Ohio Issue 2, an amendment to the state constitution — for infrastructure this time, not to legalize marijuana like 2023’s Issue 2. Passage of this Issue 2 would reauthorize the State Capital Improvement Program, which has been around since 1987; it’s been renewed by voters three times since then, most recently in 2014.
If Issue 2 is approved by voters, that means the State of Ohio will be allowed to borrow billions of dollars over the next 10 years to fund local infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and water and sewer management systems. Go here for all things Issue 2, including ballot language and pros and cons of the issue.
In case you missed it, voting details are available at the top of today’s newsletter.
