How to catch the April 8 eclipse in our area

Today is Feb. 22, 2024.

  • Good morning, everyone! It’s going to be cooler today with periods of rain into the early afternoon; rain and wet roads may lead to travel disruptions. Our high will be 48 degrees and our low will be 35, followed by lows dropping to 19 degrees Friday and Saturday before things start to warm up again. And no snow in the forecast for at least the next week.

Calling all artists: City wants your submissions for the next phase of its traffic box art project

The Stow Arts Commission is providing an open art call for Phase IV of the Traffic Signal Box City Beautification Project. The commission is seeking proposals from artists to provide artwork for vinyl wrapping of electrical traffic signal boxes. Boxes vary in size and design (vents, access doors, etc.) but are an average of 60x40x27 inches.

Four boxes on Graham Road will be included with Phase IV.

Upon acceptance, each artist will be assigned a box and the measurements. They will also be made aware of the printer’s digital file requirements. Artists are encouraged to physically go look at their assigned box to ensure that their content fits appropriately, taking into account location of vents, handles, etc.

Here’s what the city is looking for:

  • Bright, vibrant and colorful art.

  • Artwork may be panoramic around the box, or four separate images on each side of the box.

  • Two-dimensional paintings, drawings, designs and digital art are acceptable submissions.

  • The submitted art will be digitalized and screened onto vinyl, which will be wrapped around a traffic signal box.

The hard deadline to apply for this time-sensitive project is 5 p.m. Friday, March 15. The selection committee will review completed applications and notify selected artists via email by Monday, March 25. Go here to submit your art.

Installation of this phase of signal box art is expected to be complete by June 28.

Traffic box art is available for purchase by going to this page.
