Pribonic's colleagues want to leave politics aside. Plus, Miller's Landing, Fox Den and Christmas events

Today is Nov. 16, 2023.
We’re going to have good weather for putting up those outdoor decorations today. It’s going to be pleasantly warm with plenty of sun, with a high of 65 and a low of 49. Things are going to cool down from there, with rain at times Friday and lows falling to 28 degrees by Sunday night. Rain is also in the forecast next Tuesday, but the snow is staying away — for now.
If today’s edition of The Spotlight feels thicker than usual, that’s because it is. Although we’re back to publishing Thursdays after our special election edition of Wednesday, Nov. 8, this will be our last edition until Nov. 30 because we’re taking next week off for the Thanksgiving holiday. Therefore, we’re packing a lot into today’s newsletter so that we’ve got all the bases covered until we come back in two weeks. Enjoy!
With the leaf pick-up programs underway in our area, here is an important reminder, courtesy of the Village of Silver Lake, that applies to us all: When raking leaves, don’t let them spill onto the street (notify your lawn care contractor). Wet leaves on paved surfaces cause dangerous, slippery conditions for driving, bicycling and walking. Leaves in the street can also get washed into and through the storm sewers and end up in our local waterways, contributing to our water quality (algae) problems as well as possibly causing flooding when the drains are clogged.
Silver Lake Mayor Bernie Hovey’s final Mayoral Address will take place Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the Silver Lake Country Club at 1325 Graham Rd. The receiving line will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. Checks in the amount of $40 must be made payable to John Schluep, Chairman, and mailed to 3000 Millboro Rd., Silver Lake, OH 44224 no later than Saturday, Dec. 2. Seating is limited, so get your paid reservations in early. It’s the last chance for Silver Lake residents to honor and say farewell to Hovey, who opted not to run in the Nov. 7 election after serving as Silver Lake’s mayor since 2006. [Read Hovey’s message to mayor-elect Therese Dunphy further down this issue.]

Elaine Brewer and Pauline Suplit of Vitalia Stow and Ilene Savin of Vitalia Solon are blazing a new trail in fashion. These senior influencers — known as “granfluencers” — are donning fashion with a twist: Brewer, Savin and Suplit are showing off their adaptive clothing that is not only fashionable, but which also affords them the freedom to continue to be independent.”

Here’s how it works:
The clothing uses magnets, rather than snaps or buttons, to make getting dressed easier. There are other alterations available as well, such as side-open pants, wrap skirts, and pants designed with wheelchair accessibility in mind.
The fashionistas are making adaptive clothing the hottest trend in their respective communities, showing peers that age-functional clothing can promote independence and fun without sacrificing looking great. In fact, at Vitalia, the residents are even turning into granfluencers in TikTok videos.
According to CNN, granfluencers are one of the hottest new trends on social media — proving that there is no age limit on peer influencing, especially when it comes to fashion.
You go, girls!
