🔦 Gunshots at Silver Lake Boathouse

Mysterious gunfire is still under investigation

Today is May 7, 2026.

  • Good morning! Well, we’re about halfway through spring and the weather hasn’t completely broken yet — and today will be more of the same: a high of 54, intervals of clouds and sunshine, and a low tonight of 42. And Mother’s Day on Sunday is looking a little dicey with highs in the mid-50s and periods of rain. We just can’t seem to shake off that chill once and for all.

  • Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback about the future of The Spotlight! There were so many responses that we won’t have time to reply to you all, but we did receive your ideas. And based on that feedback, it appears most of you are quite happy to have The Spotlight merged with The Summiteer. We’re still considering options and looking at how to do this. But your input was decisive to helping us narrow our focus. Thank you and we’ll keep you posted.

Silver Lake

Closing in: Police identify suspects wanted in gunfire incidents at boathouse and Silver Lake Boulevard; no injuries reported

There were some anxious and terrifying moments in Silver Lake last week when shots rang out near the Silver Lake Boathouse, followed by additional gunfire from the same group of males as they raced through the village in a pickup truck.

The incident took place the evening of April 29. The following morning, the Silver Lake Police Department posted an update on Facebook stating that “thanks to eyewitnesses and the community’s help, we have identified the three suspects, and are in discussions with the prosecutor to determine appropriate charges. Thank you to all who provided camera footage and called in tips which were crucial in helping us determine who was responsible.”

The suspects remain at large. Here’s what happened according to Silver Lake police:

  • Around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, Silver Lake PD received a call for shots fired at the Silver Lake Boathouse. Witnesses stated there were three males hanging around the parking lot, one of whom pulled out a handgun and fired three to four shots in the direction of the lake.

  • The suspects then retreated to their newer model silver or gray Toyota Tacoma four-door pickup truck and left the area, heading north on Silver Lake Boulevard. When they got to the 3100 block of Silver Lake Boulevard, they fired three more rounds from the truck. They were last seen heading south on Harriett Road toward Kent Road.

  • Officers from Silver Lake, Stow and Cuyahoga Falls checked the area but were unable to locate the truck or suspects.

  • There were no reports of damage to any structure or vehicle and there are no reported injuries. Spent shell casings were found at both locations.

Residents and witnesses weighed in on SLPD’s Facebook page, with one poster stating: “We didn’t hear the shot at the boathouse, [but] we heard the shots around the 3100 block after the individuals sped down the Blvd at nearly 50-60mph blaring their horn and flashing their brights.”

As police work to track down the suspects, residents with any additional information or surveillance footage are asked to call Silver Lake dispatch at 330-929-8771.

May Primary Election

Stage is set: Coleman sweeps to victory in Republican primary, will battle incumbent Sykes for 13th District seat in November

The voters have spoken: Carey Coleman soundly defeated his four Republican primary opponents Tuesday and will face Democrat incumbent Emilia Sykes for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District seat in the November midterms. Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake are part of the 13th District.

Coleman cruised to victory in the May 5 Primary Election, garnering 47.3% of the vote – 28½ points ahead of Kevin Siembida, who finished second with 18.77% of the vote. They were followed by Margaret Briem, third with 16.9%; Neil Patel, fourth with 14.47%; and Sanjin Drakovac, fifth with 2.57%.

Coleman is a familiar name in Northeast Ohio from his days as a radio host on WNIR and as a Cleveland television meteorologist. The Republican primary was his first foray into politics.

Emilia Sykes

Sykes, meanwhile, is a political veteran. She is seeking her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she has served since 2023. Sykes ran unopposed on the Democrat side in Tuesday’s primary.

No local issues or levies were on the May primary ballot for Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake. For all the results from Tuesday’s Ohio Primary Election, go to this page.

The 2026 General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 3.
