Fast and furious: Thieves steal two cars from Mazda dealership in Kent, elude capture after chase by Stow police
While the ShotStop Ballistics case is winding down (more on that further down this newsletter), another is heating up. According to Kent police, thieves broke into the Mazda dealership at 1127 W. Main St. in Kent near the Stow border early on the morning of March 20 and stole a 2020 purple Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and an Infiniti Q60.
This ended up with Stow police chasing a purple Dodge Challenger and a white Infiniti Q60 at the same time that Kent police were investigating the break-in at the Mazda dealership. The thieves got away after a high-speed chase that lasted over a minute (go here to see the dashcam video). Police suspect the cars stolen from the Mazda dealership are the same ones spotted by police in Stow.
Hereās what we know according to police:
At 1:16 a.m. March 20, Kent police officers responded to an alarm drop at the Mazda dealership on West Main Street and found a smashed bay door there, with the dealership-owned Hellcat and Infiniti Q60 missing from the property.
At 1:32 a.m., while Kent police were on the scene on West Main Street, a Stow police officer saw a purple Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a white Infiniti Q60 in suspicious circumstances pulling out of the BP station on the corner of Graham and Fishcreek roads. Since Kent police had alerted the Stow Police Department about the break-in at the Mazda dealership, Stow police were already patrolling the area.
According to Stow police, the two cars sped onto Graham Road, with the officer in pursuit. The chase eventually reached speeds of 100 mph before the officer stopped the pursuit after a minute and a half due to the excessive speed.
Police are still searching for the suspects. If you have any information, contact the Kent Police Department at 330-673-7732.
