🔦 Miller's Landing approved after alleged Pulte threat

Pulte threatened to sue the city, Licate says. Plus Bratten stepping down

Today is Dec. 21, 2023.

  • Happy first day of winter! It’s going to be a good day for holiday travel today, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 40 degrees as the snow from that surprise winter storm Monday night/Tuesday morning continues to melt. It’ll be 32 tonight, then temps will warm up to 53 degrees for Christmas Eve on Sunday and a balmy 57 for Christmas Day on Monday, with both days expected to be partly sunny. So it looks like Santa won’t need to de-ice the sleigh for the Northeast Ohio leg of his trip this year.

  • This will be our last edition of The Spotlight until next year — Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 to be exact — because we’re taking next week off for Christmas and New Year’s. Have a safe and happy holiday season!

  • Today is the “shortest day” of the year, punctuated by the winter solstice at 10:27 p.m. EST. We will only have about 9 hours of daylight today — but take heart, because tomorrow the days will start to get longer all the way to the summer solstice in June.

  • As for that winter storm earlier this week, we certainly got more snow than the National Weather Service had forecast. In fact, Stow got the most snow in Summit County, with 9.3 inches falling Monday night into Tuesday. Munroe Falls wasn’t far behind with 7 inches according to the NWS.
