🔦 Miller's Landing fallout

Residents speak out. Plus, what to do with your Christmas tree

Today is Jan. 4, 2024.

  • Happy New Year! We’ll have a high of 31 today with a snow shower this morning; otherwise, it’ll be mostly cloudy with temps falling to 21 degrees tonight. Things will then go downhill this weekend with 3 to 6 inches of snow forecast for Saturday into Sunday, which is sure to cause travel disruptions. From there it’ll warm up into the low 40s by Tuesday, when we can expect wind and rain. So we’re about to get a little bit of everything in the next few days.

  • We hope you had a safe and happy holiday season! We’re back after taking some time off over Christmas and New Year’s, and today’s edition of The Spotlight resumes our customary Thursday publication schedule.

  • The City of Munroe Falls Service Department is seeking full- and part-time public works laborers. If interested, you can either apply online or in person at City Hall at 43 Munroe Falls Ave. Pay range is $19-$22 an hour based on qualifications and experience. Download an application here or apply online here.

  • Several stories in this issue are only available to premium subscribers: What to do with your Christmas tree, residents are furious about the Miller’s Landing decision, a possible new senior and community center in Stow, nature events coming up, Stow Players, youth baseball registration and more local news. Full access is $2.99/month.

  • If you just subscribed or missed something in an earlier newsletter, don’t fret: Subscribers have access to every edition of The Spotlight at www.stowmunroefalls.com. Check out back issues to catch up on everything that’s going on in our communities — you never know what you might have missed!

Don’t like your Summit County property valuation? Your window to fight it is open until April 1

After those controversial property reappraisals we had here in Summit County last year, here’s some information we can all use: The Summit County Fiscal Office’s Board of Revision will accept complaints against the valuation of real estate through April 1, which is the deadline to file a complaint form (Form DTE 1).

When a complaint is filed, the Board of Revision will hold a hearing, consider testimony or evidence provided, and issue a decision on whether an adjustment should be made to the property valuation.

Here’s the complaint process:

  • Property owners can obtain a Form DTE 1 by emailing [email protected] or going to http://FiscalOffice.summitoh.net and choosing the Board of Revision Complaint link on the home page.

  • Complaint forms and evidence can be hand delivered by 4 p.m. or mailed to the Summit County Fiscal Office, 175 S. Main St., Room 302, Akron, OH 44308, or to its satellite location at Summit County Board of Revision, 1180 S. Main St., Suite 250, Akron, OH 44301.

  • Complaint forms can also be submitted electronically at http://FiscalOffice.summitoh.net.

  • Evidence can be uploaded at the time of filing or submitted in person, by U.S. Mail, or emailed to [email protected].

  • Submissions are required by law to be postmarked on or before April 1, 2024.

Board of Revision members are the fiscal officer, county executive, county clerk of courts, or their representatives.
