The final decision. Plus, Heritage House investigation continues and more

Today is Dec. 14, 2023.

Expect more sun and mild temperatures over the weekend until afternoon showers move in Sunday. Lows will drop to 23 by next Tuesday, but otherwise winter’s wrath is nowhere to be found — yet.

Stow

You’re invited: Wreaths Across America ceremony honoring veterans is Dec. 16

The Joshua Stow Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution invites the community to celebrate National Wreaths Across America Day 2023 on Saturday, Dec. 16, when the chapter will host a local ceremony at 2:30 p.m. to honor our community’s veterans who are buried at the three Stow cemeteries. The Wreaths Across America ceremony will take place at Stow Cemetery at 3162 Kent Rd.

IF YOU’RE GOING: Participants and spectators may park across the street from the cemetery at Holy Family School; Stow police will be on hand to facilitate traffic and assist attendees in crossing Kent Road (attendees should arrive by 2:15 p.m.). The formal ceremony is brief, and laying the wreaths will take place immediately after the ceremony. Attendees are welcome to participate in the laying of the wreaths.

Those interested in assisting with laying wreaths at the other two Stow cemeteries — Maple Lawn at 4915 Darrow Rd. and Silver Springs at 5080 Stow Rd. — should plan to attend the ceremony at Stow Cemetery first prior to being released for wreath laying at the other locations.

Attendees will be part of a poignant global event:

  • This is the third year that the Joshua Stow NSDAR has brought Wreaths Across America to the Stow community.

  • Last year, the Chapter was joined by over 200 residents, who helped honor our community’s veterans by placing wreaths on their graves in all three of Stow’s cemeteries.

  • This year’s ceremony in Stow will once again take place concurrently with other ceremonies across the country and around the world as part of the Wreaths Across America project. WAA is a national non-profit organization.

Wreaths may be sponsored for $17 and can be done by going to this page or emailing [email protected] for a sponsorship form. The Chapter’s goal is for residents to sponsor enough wreaths to cover all the graves of the 875 veterans who are buried in Stow’s three cemeteries.
