🔦 Munroe Falls changes stormwater rates

It'll now be based on your runoff

Today is Sept. 5, 2024.

  • Good morning! We’re in the last vestiges of summer (already), which means we’re getting those nice, warm days and cooler fall-like nights — and today will be Exhibit A: It’s going to be warm with plenty of sunshine, with the high reaching 83 degrees and tonight’s low dropping to 59. Autumn then makes a guest appearance over the weekend when highs will only be in the 60s and lows dip into the mid-40s — an audition for its official arrival Sept. 22.

  • BULLDOGS WIN IN FRONT OF ZONK: Former Stow High School great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Csonka was in the house for the Bulldogs’ 35-21 home victory over Barberton on Aug. 30. The Miami Dolphins legend and Super Bowl VIII MVP posted this on social media after the game: “Congrats to my hometown HS the Stow Bulldogs on their WIN last night against Barberton”. Check out this video of “Zonk” at the stadium.

  • CARSONSTRONG FUNDRAISER NEEDS SPONSORS, VOLUNTEERS: The CarsonStrong Foundation of Stow will host its 8th Annual Carson Higgins Memorial Golf Outing starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, and the organization is looking for sponsors, golfers and volunteers. To check out sponsorship packages or register to golf, go to https://givebutter.com/CarsonHigginsGolf. If you’d like to donate a raffle item or gift card, you can reach out to [email protected]. For volunteer opportunities, go to this page. The event will take place at The Country Club of Hudson, located at 2155 Middleton Rd. in Hudson. This event funds CarsonStrong’s mission of positively impacting the lives of children and families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

  • SMF LIBRARY IS HIRING: The Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library has an opening for a part-time Public Service Assistant position in the Circulation Department. Pay is $13 an hour, and required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED. Closing date is Friday, Oct. 4. Go here for more information.

  • WHERE DO YOU STAND ON THE SMF SCHOOLS BOND ISSUE? The Spotlight is taking the pulse of the Stow-Munroe Falls community on the upcoming $238 million, 35-year bond issue the school district is putting on the November ballot to build five new schools. If passed, the 8.89-mill bond issue would increase property taxes for owners of homes valued at $200,000 by nearly $622 annually. Send us your comments on the issue, and we will publish them as we get them in our “Reader Spotlight” feature (detailed below).

  • “Reader Spotlight” is a forum where you can send us your comments, concerns and suggestions on anything going on in our communities of Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake. Send your email to [email protected], put “Reader Spotlight” in the subject line, and please include your name and town (recommended but not required for publication). A howling good time: Paw Fest 2024 will take over Bow Wow Beach on Sept. 15

It’s almost here! The 17th Annual Paw Fest, sponsored by the Stow-Munroe Falls Lions Club, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at the City of Stow’s Bow Wow Beach Dog Park, located at 5027 Stow Rd. in Stow.

If you’ve been to Paw Fest before, then you know how much fun this annual event brings for hundreds of canines and their owners. If not, you’re in for a real treat (and so are the pups!). The festivities will include:

  • Dog contests in the following categories: Best Dog Costume in a Parade, Best Dog in a Hawaiian Costume, Best Howling Dog, Best Dog Trick, and Shortest & Longest Dog Tails. Celebrity judges will pick the winners!

  • Speakers from the Humane Society of Summit County and Paws & Prayers Rescue

  • Dog vendors

  • Rescue groups

  • Food trucks

  • Gift raffle

There is no charge to enter — just $1 to park or a donation of used eyeglasses, which is a specific program the Lions Club maintains.

Also, Bulldog Bags will be available to collect September’s non-perishable foods: juice boxes, microwaveable macaroni & cheese, and fruit cups.

So bring the pups (on a leash, of course) and the family for another year of fun!
