Hello Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake!

It’s Tom Hardesty, editor of our almost-ready-to-launch publication.

Today I have the final results of our community-wide vote on what this new publication will be called.

Two weeks ago we asked you for suggestions, and last week we narrowed those down to two we liked and considered viable: Stow Spotlight and The Bullhorn. Out of 692 subscribers, 156 cast a vote.

And the winner is, in a landslide…

Stow Spotlight!

Well, kind of.

We received additional feedback that I thought was important to consider. The focus on Stow in this name seems to very deliberately leave Munroe Falls and Silver Lake out of the “spotlight.” We don’t want to diminish Munroe Falls and Silver Lake tacitly with the exclusion. However, “Stow-Munroe Falls-Silver Lake Spotlight” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Nor does “SMFSL Spotlight.” 

So let’s try this: The Spotlight. 

It’s true it won’t have Stow, Munroe Falls or Silver Lake in the name. But we think that over time, The Spotlight will become synonymous with our three communities and what happens here. Plus, there’s nothing that says you can’t call it by the name of your town colloquially — the Stow Spotlight or the Munroe Falls Spotlight, etc. 

We think The Spotlight is apropos, because that is exactly what we plan to do: Spotlight news, people and events in Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake. And we can’t wait to get started!

What do you think? If anyone sees any glaring problems with this choice, now’s the time to speak up!

Our website URL

As for our website, we are planning to stick with the same URL for now: stowmunroefalls.com. The reason is that the cost to buy thespotlight.com is $100,000, and I can think of a few better things to do with that kind of money. Meanwhile, spotlight.com is already taken by a British theater casting organization.

Obviously, stowmunroefalls.com has the same issue as Stow Spotlight in that it leaves out Silver Lake. But it’s important to keep the URL short and memorable. (I’m sorry about that, Silver Lakers.)

The next step is to design a logo for our publication! We'll get to work on that and unveil it when we launch the newsletter next month.

One more thing on the name: Next week, this email will be coming from "The Spotlight" instead of "Stow-Munroe Falls News." But it will still be sent from the same email address, [email protected].
