Morning, all! On July 3 we officially entered the Dog Days of Summer, which run through Aug. 11. The Dog Days, of course, are the hot, sultry days of summer, and weâve certainly gotten a heavy dose of those lately â with more coming today. Itâs going to be 83 degrees, partly sunny and humid, with an afternoon thunderstorm in parts of the area; our low tonight will be 65. Then the Dogs will really start barking Sunday when the high is forecast to hit 90 â again. Check out the Old Farmerâs Almanac for more about the Dog Days of Summer.
STOW COMMUNITY & SENIOR CENTER CLOSED FOR IMPROVEMENTS: The City of Stow advises residents that the Stow Community & Senior Center will be closed from Friday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 16 to complete the parking lot construction. All registered programs during this time will take place at Stow City Hall at 3760 Darrow Rd.
VENDORS WANTED FOR ST. STEPHEN FALL CRAFT MARKET: St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow is looking for vendors for its annual Fall Craft Market, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in the fellowship hall and surrounding outdoor area. The church is located at 3725 Kent Rd. The Fall Craft Market will feature local artists, organizations and vendors. Jewelry, crafts, art and handmade items will be available for sale. Vendor applications from artists and crafters will be accepted until Saturday, Sept. 27. Cost for an 8-foot table space in the fellowship hall is $25, and a 10x10 outdoor space is also $25. Proceeds from the table reservations will benefit St. Stephenâs Mission Support. Contact the church office at [email protected] for more information and an application.
HUMANE SOCIETY ADOPT-A-THON THIS WEEKEND: From Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13, the Humane Society of Summit County will hold its Bow Wow Meow Luau Adopt-A-Thon, where fees will be waived on all animals in the shelter for those three days. Hours for the adopt-a-thon are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the HSSC shelter at 752 W. Portage Trl. in Akron (on the border with Cuyahoga Falls). Fun in the sun: New Summer Fest event set to debut at Guise Park on July 27
Munroe Falls is set to unveil a new community event later this month. Itâs the cityâs first annual âSummer Festâ celebration, sponsored by the Munroe Falls Park Board along with the Portage Trail and Stow Dairy Queens, and it will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27 at Guise Park (next to City Hall on Munroe Falls Avenue).
Summer Fest, a family-friendly event, will feature:
Live local music by the Itâs About Time Duo at 2 p.m. and the Riverfront Community Band at 3 p.m. (bring your blankets and chairs!)
Touch-a-Truck
GASP fingerprinting
Free ice cream (while supplies last)
The Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Bookmobile
Meanwhile, the park boardâs Fall Festival scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5 has been canceled. In its place, the city will host a grand reopening of the newly renovated Guise Park Lodge (date to be announced).
