Today is Aug. 18, 2023.
Good morning! After yet another dark and stormy night, we’re in line for a run of nice weather — starting today, when it’s going to be partly sunny and breezy with a high of 73 and a low down to 53. The temps will then ramp up to the high 80s with no rain forecast for at least the next week — a nice break from the relentless rounds of storms that have battered us lately.
If you want your voice to be heard regarding the proposed Pulte Homes subdivision along North River Road in Stow known as Miller's Landing, then you’re going to want to attend the Stow Planning Commission’s next meeting Tuesday, Aug. 22. The meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at 3760 Darrow Rd. Miller’s Landing would be built between Marsh Road and Saratoga Boulevard and necessitate the construction of two new streets off North River Road, one street consisting of 25 new homes and the other 20 homes. The proposed project has been met with stiff resistance, with a reported 1,000 residents already signing a petition opposing the development. A standing-room-only crowd was on hand for the Feb. 14 meeting when the planning commission unanimously approved the project’s preliminary site plan proposal, so things could get interesting Tuesday night.

Stow
Double the fun: Summer Sunset Blast is set to kick off the September festival season …
Music. Festival food. Kids activities. Craft beer by Missing Mountain. And fireworks — especially fireworks.
Around here, that all means one thing: the Stow Summer Sunset Blast, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3 at Silver Springs Park in Stow (Young Road entrance). Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. both days.
More than 30 vendors will be on hand for our community’s annual end-of-summer bash, which will feature its traditional — and spectacular — Grand Finale Fireworks at the end of the festival Sunday night.
Parking and admission are free (there will be costs for the kids entertainment area and food vendors).
Here is the schedule of events both days:
Saturday, Sept. 2 — All day: Food, music, entertainment, craft beer from Missing Mountain; 5-8 p.m.: Petting zoo (included with $5 wrist band); 5-10 p.m.: Inflatables & rock wall (included with $5 wrist band); 6-9 p.m.: Face painting; 6-9 p.m.: Balloon twister; 6-10 p.m.: Musical artist The Players Club, featuring an energetic set that will take you back to the good old days.
Sunday, Sept. 3 — All day: Food, music, entertainment, craft beer from Missing Mountain; 5-8 p.m.: Petting zoo (included with $5 wrist band); 5-10 p.m.: Inflatables & rock wall (included with $5 wrist band); 6-9 p.m.: Face painting; 6-9 p.m.: Balloon twister; 7-10 p.m.: Musical artist Karri Fedor & Kerosene, featuring a set list of everything from Adele to Guns N' Roses; 9 p.m.: Grand Finale Fireworks.
… followed by Paw Fest — complete with mayors measuring dog tails — in the middle of the month
About two weeks later, Silver Springs Park will be jumping again — quite literally — when it hosts the 16th Annual Paw Fest. The popular event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 at Silver Springs’ Bow Wow Beach Dog Park.
Speakers, presentations and dog contests will once again highlight the festivities:
Speakers — Cinnamon Coulter from Pups Path; Tater Tot from the CASA/GAL program of Summit County; and Stow & Munroe Falls K-9 units — with their officers — who will once again demonstrate how they keep our communities safe.
Dog Contests — Best Dog Costume in a Parade; Best Dog Football Costume; Best Howling Dog; and the favorite for years: the Shortest and Longest Dog Tails as measured by Stow Mayor John Pribonic and Munroe Falls Mayor Allen Mavrides.
Paw Fest’s organizers, headed by event Chair Marty Dennis, will also gather as many dogs and their owners as possible for a group picture near the beach fenced area. At least it should be easier than herding cats.
