The Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education might spare the 1927 schoolhouse.

Today is July 17, 2025.
Mornin’! Sorry we’re a little late today. The Dog Days of Summer are losing their bite just a little as far as the heat goes, but we’re still going to feel that muggy air. Today’s forecast: more clouds than sun, breezy and humid with a thunderstorm in spots; the high will be 83 and tonight’s low will be 60. Then temps will drop into the high 70s before we heat back up into the high 80s next week. It’s only mid-July, so we know the drill: The Dogs aren’t going anywhere yet.

SMF Library’s marketing department gets national honor for digital awareness campaign
The Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Marketing Department recently received the 2025 John Cotton Dana Award, the top national honor for library marketing and public relations — and a $10,000 prize came with it. Representatives from the SMF Public Library accepted the award last month at the American Library Association Conference held at The Notary Hotel in downtown Philadelphia.
The award recognizes the SMF Library’s “All E, All Free” e-Media Awareness Campaign, which helped tens of thousands more residents discover digital resources like e-books, audiobooks, movies, music, newspapers and more that are available for free with a library card.
The library says its e-Media Awareness Campaign:
Increased its e-Media users by 15.69%
Increased its Overdrive users by 25.3%
Saw an overall increase of 27,099 patrons getting access to free materials at the library
The SMF Library posted this message to residents on its Facebook page July 10: “This campaign succeeded because you engaged with it. Your clicks, shares, and downloads helped spread the word and boost digital checkouts. Every time you borrow instead of buy, you save money AND support SMFPL. We both win!”
Visit smfpl.org/borrow/ebooks to see what’s available in the SMF Library’s digital collection. The library advises those who need help getting started with e-materials to bring their fully charged device to the first-floor information desk for assistance.
The John Cotton Dana Award honors libraries for their exceptional achievements in strategic communications. The award has been given continuously since 1946.
