Plus, business updates and a gas leak

Today is Sept. 11, 2025.
Good morning! Summertime temperatures have been making a comeback in the last few days, although we can certainly feel autumn’s reach at night. Today the high will be 77 degrees with plenty of sunshine, with the low tonight dropping to 49. And this will lead us into what is forecast to be a nice weekend, with temps flirting with 80 degrees by Sunday as we head into the last full week of summer.
PATRIOT DAY: Today is Patriot Day commemorating the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people from approximately 90 different countries in New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The City of Stow is holding a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, open to the public, at 8:30 a.m. adjacent to the Stow Safety Building “to honor and remember.”
SILVER LAKE ROAD WORK UPDATE: The Village Hall and Silver Lake Police Department parking lots are being ground and repaved this week. The village advises residents to wait until next week to visit for any non-urgent business.
SILVER LAKE VETERANS TRIBUTE GARDEN BRICK PAVERS: Brick pavers for the Silver Lake Veterans Tribute Garden, located adjacent to Village Hall at 2961 Kent Rd., are available to order now through Tuesday, Sept. 30. The village reports that it must receive 20 order forms before it can place an order. Anyone who has recently submitted a form does not need to resubmit — you are already on the list. Cost for a brick is $100. Order forms are available at Village Hall or by going to www.villageofsilverlake.com.
SILVER LAKE CAR SHOW: The annual Silver Lake Car Show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. If you want to see some cool classic cars — and a lot of them — then don’t miss this annual extravaganza!
TRICK-OR-TREAT UPDATE: The Village of Silver Lake’s Trick-or-Treat will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
3WHEEL THERAPY OFFERING ADAPTIVE TRICYCLE RIDES THIS WEEKEND: The Summit County non-profit group 3Wheel Therapy, which includes members from Stow, will be offering free rides on its adaptive tricycles from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Summit Metro Parks Bike & Hike Trail off Route 303 in Boston Heights. Here’s how it works: Using an adaptive tricycle, 3Wheel Therapy provides a free therapeutic riding experience for those who cannot ride a traditional bicycle. Volunteer pedalers called “pilots” provide the leg work for a unique bicycle ride as volunteer bicyclists accompany the pilot and rider for safety. Anyone interested in getting a ride at the Sept. 13 event can email [email protected]. There is a weight limit, and participants must sign a waiver in order to ride.

A frightening half-hour: Gas leak forced partial closure of Route 91 last week
A gas leak the afternoon of Sept. 4 caused some anxious moments in Stow, but thankfully the situation ended without incident.
Here’s what happened:
At 1:34 p.m. that day, the City of Stow reported an active gas leak between Mac Drive and Hibbard Drive.
State Route 91 (Darrow Road) was closed entirely between Fishcreek Road and Hibbard Drive.
Police and fire were on the scene, and residents were advised to avoid the area until further notice.
At 2:08 p.m., the city reported that the area was secure and Route 91 was back open.
