Channel your inner set designer by registering your house for the Stow Halloween Decoration Tour

We’ve all driven past them: Houses decked out for Halloween in such painstaking detail that they look like the set of a horror movie. And now that can be your house by signing up to participate in the Stow Halloween Decoration Tour, which runs from Oct. 12 to 31, and showing off your Halloween spirit with your decorations and animations.

To participate, register your Stow house or business before noon on Friday, Oct. 7, at stowohio.recdesk.com or by calling 330-689-5100. A map will be provided of all the participating homes and businesses so that residents know where to look.

  • Munroe Falls Metro Park (521 S. River Rd.) will host Summit Metro Parks’ Fall Family Outing from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2. The free event will feature a lumberjack show, hayrides, bonfires, naturalist activities, music, refreshments and more. A wheelchair-accessible hay wagon will be available.

  • The Church in Silver Lake (2951 Kent Rd.) will hold an adults-only (21 and over) Bingo Night Fundraiser, sponsored by the Silver Lake Elementary Home and School League, from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Cost is $25 per ticket and includes one pack of Bingo cards to play all 10 games, one dauber, one drink ticket, snacks, and soda/water. Raffle baskets, 50/50 raffle and additional Bingo cards will also be available for purchase. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot.

  • Want to create holiday greeting cards for the soldiers? Then be at The Griffin (4962 Darrow Rd.) in Stow from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, to learn card-making techniques and make holiday cards for soldiers and veterans. Jackie, of Art by Jackie Palumbo, will be the instructor for the event, which is free and open to show up whenever you can between 5 and 7 p.m. All supplies are provided. The cards, which will be holiday/winter themed with messages written inside, will be sent to various VA hospitals within the tri-state area, local veterans shelters, and to active military families and veterans throughout Northeast Ohio.

  • The Stow Symphony Orchestra will present its Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Tallmadge Alliance Church (1155 East Ave.) in Tallmadge. The program will include selections by Corelli, Tatafiore and Beethoven. Tickets are $12 ($9 for students and seniors). Children 12 and under are free but will need a ticket to attend the performance. Buy your tickets in advance here. A value package of four tickets for $43 is also available. Tickets can be purchased at the door if available.

What: Free program for adults (families are welcome) to sit and gaze at the stars under the guidance of local astronomy gurus, who will instruct attendees and highlight celestial objects in their telescopes. Where: Groundhog Hill (near baseball fields) at Silver Springs Park (5238 Young Rd.) in Stow. Bring your own chairs, blankets and telescopes (if you have one). 🚓 Sat., Oct. 1, 9 a.m.-noon: Touch A Truck. What: Explore large and small vehicles, including a police car, fire truck, construction trucks and more. Attendees can purchase food from a food truck onsite. Where: Parking lot at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library (3512 Darrow Rd.). Admission is free.

🏃 Sat, Oct. 1, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.: NAMI Poker Run. What: National Alliance on Mental Illness event featuring several vehicle stops as well as music, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes. Dinner will be served from 4:30-5 p.m. Where: Acker-Moore Memorial Post banquet hall (3733 Fishcreek Rd.) in Stow. Cost: $25 for bike with driver (passenger $15) and $25 for other vehicle driver (passenger $25 each). Registration begins at 9 a.m.

📚 Mon., Oct. 3, all-day event: Acme Community Cashback. What: Donate your Acme receipts to help the library add books to its shelves. Where: Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library (3512 Darrow Rd.). A collection box will be located near the checkout desk, or you can drop your Acme receipts into the book drop. The library has participated in Acme’s Community Cashback since 2002, with Acme donating a total of $18,300 in that time.

🧶 Sat., Oct. 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Holiday Craft Show. What: Shop for handmade holiday crafts to support missions and the community. Lunch, refreshments and home-baked goods will also be available.
