An unconfirmed update on the Heritage House. Plus, a new charcuterie place, Halloween and more

Today is Oct. 26, 2023.

  • Good morning! We’re in for a nice one today: Partial sunshine and a high of 75, then a low of 60 tonight. But this weekend is going to be wet and much cooler, with temps dropping to 51 degrees with a shower Saturday night for the trick-or-treaters. Then lows will continue to plunge until they hit … wait for it … 25 degrees next Wednesday — the first day of November. Right on cue.

  • The Stow Historical Society has started a GoFundMe campaign following the fire that severely damaged the Heritage House on Oct. 15. The money raised will go toward the restoration of historical items that were able to be saved. A statement on the historical society’s website reads: “This is a significant and long process and we are working with professional restoration organizations to save as much as we can as soon as we are able. Please consider donating through this fund to help in that restoration.” Go to this page if you’d like to donate. Be sure to check out an update on the Heritage House further down this issue.

  • Stow City Council will have its second reading of the Miller’s Landing subdivision proposal at its meeting tonight. Public comments will be welcome, so if you have something to say on the matter one way or the other, tonight would be a great opportunity to do it. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers (first floor of Stow City Hall) at 3760 Darrow Rd. The third reading and vote are scheduled to take place at council’s Thursday, Nov. 9 meeting.

  • Get ready ghosts and goblins, it’s almost time! Trick-or-Treat in our area is Saturday, Oct. 28. Here is the ghoulish schedule for each community: Stow 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Munroe Falls 5-7 p.m.; Silver Lake 6-8 p.m. Happy Halloween!

The most wonderful time of the year: Holiday Lighting Spectacular is Dec. 2

Mark your calendars, because it’ll be here before you know it: The City of Stow’s Glow with Stow Holiday Lighting Spectacular will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at Stow City Center at 3760 Darrow Rd.

The free, family-oriented event will feature a fun-filled night of activities, music, food for purchase, and, of course, the main event: the tree lighting at 6:15 p.m., with Mayor John Pribonic flipping the switch. After the lights are on, watch for Santa and Mrs. Claus to arrive on a fire truck!

Activities will include:

  • Santa’s Workshop

  • Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus

  • See Santa’s magical live reindeer

  • Train rides

  • Fun with the Grinch and the Friendly Elf

Go to this page for the complete event schedule, list of activities, and food trucks & vendors that will be onsite.

More on those lights …

Once Mayor Pribonic flips the switch Dec. 2, the lights will be on display at Stow City Center each evening through Jan. 2. To see the lights up close, park at the SKiP parking lot to access the entrance to the display area. Follow the candy cane welcome arch and meander along the lighted sidewalks that take you through a festive winter wonderland. Along the way, you’ll see many lighted trees; lighted silhouettes, including a fire truck, police cruiser, camper and snowman; and, of course, don’t miss the huge lighted Christmas tree!
