🔦 Two election results
Issue 2 passes. Plus, there's a Panda Express coming near you

Today is May 7, 2025.
Good morning! We’ve been on that classic Northeast Ohio spring roller coaster ride, and today we’re up at the top of another hill. It’s going to be milder with intervals of clouds and sunshine, with a high of 69 and a low of 46. The big news: No rain is forecast for today, giving us a break from the deluge we’ve endured lately. And your early Mother’s Day forecast for Sunday, May 11: abundant sunshine with a high of 67 and low of 46.
A DAY EARLY TODAY: We’re publishing today due to the May 6 Primary Election (results are detailed a little further down this newsletter). We’ll resume our normal schedule next week with the Thursday, May 15 edition of The Spotlight.
STOW TOWN HALL MEETING: The City of Stow Charter Review Commission will hold a Town Hall Discussion at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 about proposed changes to the Stow City Charter. The discussion will take place at Stow City Hall Council Chambers at 3760 Darrow Rd. Topics of discussion: Articles 10-19 and 22 of the City Charter, Rank Choice Voting, Ward Changes and Council Term Limit Changes. Residents are invited to share feedback and suggest changes.
ACKER-MOORE CRAFT SHOW: The Acker-Moore Memorial Post’s 3rd Annual Spring into Summer Craft Show will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31. The post is located at 3733 Fishcreek Rd. in Stow. Check out what local crafters have to offer!
SILVER LAKE HYDRANT FLUSHING: Fire hydrant flushing in Silver Lake began May 5 and will run for approximately four weeks until all hydrants are flushed and inspected. The village conducts this program once a year to remove sediment and iron deposits from the water mains, as well as to inspect the working condition of the hydrants to ensure the best possible fire protection for the village. The flushing process may temporarily discolor your water. While it is safe for drinking, the discoloration may affect laundry. The village advises that residents check their water before using.
SMF LIBRARY HIRING: The Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library is hiring for a part-time Public Service Assistant position. Go here for more information and an application.
SILVER LAKE JOB OPENING: The Village of Silver Lake is accepting applications for a Full-Time Service Worker. Starting pay is $24.90/hr. with benefits. Go here for more information and an application. Applications may be dropped off at Village Hall at 2961 Kent Rd. or emailed, attention Ben Gregory, to [email protected].

May Primary Election
No drama: Curtin rolls through Republican Primary, Issue 2 passes overwhelmingly
As far as elections go, the May 6 Primary was fairly uneventful in our neck of the woods. We had one local race, for Stow Municipal Court judge, as well as statewide Issue 2, a measure to fund infrastructure.
Here’s a look at the unofficial results with 100% of precincts reporting:
REPUBLICAN PRIMARY — STOW MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE: Cynthia Curtin, who was basically running unopposed, won the primary with 100% of the vote, finishing with a total of 3,978 votes.
OHIO ISSUE 2 (To Fund Public Infrastructure Capital Improvements by Permitting the Issuance of General Obligation Bonds): YES — 588,251 (67.76%); NO — 279,873 (32.24%).
The passage of Issue 2 allows the state to issue up to $2.5 billion in general obligation bonds, limited to $250 million per year over 10 years, to assist local governments in funding public infrastructure improvement projects like roads, bridges, sewers, stormwater systems and waste facilities.
Two things to note: 1. Issue 2 does not create any increase in taxes because the funds are built into the state budget; and 2. Since Issue 2 funds are for infrastructure improvement only, none of the bond money can go toward the proposed Cleveland Browns stadium and entertainment complex in Brook Park.

Stow Fourth of July Parade: “Celebrating 60 years of Commerce & Community”
If you’ve been to it before, you know all about the pageantry and excitement. If you haven’t, then you’re in for a treat. It’s the Stow Fourth of July Parade, and this year’s 67th annual edition will honor the Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce as its grand marshal. The Chamber is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025, thus the parade’s slogan: “Celebrating 60 Years of Commerce & Community: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future.”
The parade, which will feature over 100 entries, will step off at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4 from the Stow Community Center (Target plaza) parking lot, travel west down Route 59 and conclude at Park Drive, just west of Holy Family Church.
The parade is part of the city’s Celebrate Stow Week festivities. For more information or to register to secure a spot in the parade, go to this page.
Stow Firecracker Run
Before the parade starts, get your morning workout in at the Stow Firecracker Run, which is now in its 45th year. The race features the 4-Mile Run and 2-Mile Fun Run, both starting at 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 4 at Holy Family Church, located at 3179 Kent Rd.
Cost is $35 pre-registration and $40 day of race for the 4-Mile Run, and $25 pre-registration and $30 day of race for the 2-Mile Fun Run. Go here to register or for more information.
