🔦 How many votes to approve Miller's Landing
Stow City Council will vote next week on the development, but how many votes are needed?

Today is Nov. 2, 2023.
That was certainly some Halloween night, wasn’t it? We went to sleep in October and woke up in January, greeted by a winter wonderland of snow covering the ground and trees. It was a taste of what’s coming, but for now winter will have to wait because we’re going to gradually warm up into the weekend, starting today when we’re going to have sun and clouds with a high of 48. Highs will top out at 61 degrees Monday, so it’s not winter — yet.
A reminder that The Spotlight will publish Wednesday, Nov. 8 next week instead of our usual Thursday so that you have all the local election results sitting in your inbox the morning after Election Day!
Speaking of Election Day, polls are open Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Early in-person and absentee voting has been underway since Oct. 11.
Another reminder to “fall back” this weekend. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, so it’s time to move those clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
The City of Stow is hiring for the following positions: Clerk of Courts - Deputy Clerk (two full-time positions are open; job listing is open until filled), Human Resources Generalist (full-time; job listing closes at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3), and Part-Time School Crossing Guard - Police Department (job listing is open until filled).

Honoring veterans: Joshua Stow Chapter NSDAR to hold wreath ceremonies at City Hall, cemeteries
It’s going to be a busy month or so for the Joshua Stow Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
First, to commemorate Veterans Day, the Joshua Stow Chapter NSDAR will hold a ceremonial first wreath-laying at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Doughboy statue in front of Stow City Hall at 3760 Darrow Rd. to honor our community’s veterans. Stow Mayor John Pribonic will lay the ceremonial first wreath. In case of inclement weather on Veterans Day, the first wreath-laying ceremony will be held inside City Hall.
The Doughboy statue stood sentry from the end of World War II until 1979, when it was damaged during a road-widening project. For 17 years he was absent before a community-wide effort to restore him saw his return in 1996.
The inscription at the base of the statue reads: “Dedicated to those who have served our country. Their memory lives on forever and we shall never forget.”
“The laying of our first wreath at the Doughboy symbolizes our gratitude to all the men and women of Stow who served our community and nation in peacetime and war,” Chapter Regent Kristen Hoover Boutton said.
Then, the Joshua Stow Chapter NSDAR will bring Wreaths Across America back to the Stow community at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Last year, the Chapter was joined by over 200 residents to help honor our community’s veterans by placing wreaths on their graves in all three of Stow’s cemeteries.
The 2022 ceremony was part of a global effort, with over 2.7 million wreaths placed in over 3,700 cemeteries from Alaska to the beaches of Normandy.
This year’s ceremony in Stow will again take place concurrently with other ceremonies across the country and around the globe as part of the Wreaths Across America project. WAA is a national non-profit organization.
“Our ceremony in December will allow us to continue to honor and express our appreciation for our community veterans,” Hoover Boutton said.
Wreaths may be sponsored at a cost of $17 and can be done by going to this page or by emailing [email protected] for a sponsorship form. The Chapter’s goal is for residents to sponsor enough wreaths to cover all the graves of the estimated 850 veterans who are buried in the three Stow cemeteries.
