🔦 Want to buy an ambulance?
Munroe Falls is selling one. Plus, Stow-Glen update, Angel of Hope, golf league and more

Today is Jan. 27, 2023.
Happy Friday! Temps are going to hold steady today, with a high of 35 and a low of 32. Expect snow showers this morning but accumulations of only a coating to an inch. Temps will then rise into the low 40s over the weekend before falling steadily throughout next week, dropping all the way down to 9 degrees by Thursday -- the same day that Punxsutawney Phil will let us know how much winter we have left.

In memoriam: Special bricks are available for spring placement at children's memorial in Silver Springs Cemetery

Submitted photo
Nearly 800 bricks, all in memory of deceased children, have been placed at the Angel of Hope Children's Memorial in Stow Silver Springs Cemetery since the memorial's inception in 2001. The next round of placement of bricks at the memorial, created as a peaceful place for grieving parents whose children have died, will take place at a ceremony in May.
These special bricks may be purchased in memory of any child, regardless of age or where the child was born or lived, at a cost of $100. Deceased children did not have to be Stow residents. Bricks may also be purchased as gifts in memory of a child or children.
Brick order forms are available at the memorial in Silver Springs Cemetery at 5080 Stow Rd., at www.stowangelofhope.com or by calling Christine Moncheck at 330-285-0989. The brick order deadline for spring placement is Friday, Feb. 10.
Following placement of the bricks, an inspirational ceremony will be held for families and friends to honor their children who have become part of the memorial. Bricks will continue to be sold throughout the year, with another brick placement at the memorial scheduled to take place in the fall.

Forms are available here and at Village Hall (2961 Kent Rd.). After this second order of pavers is placed, Mayor Bernie Hovey says he can't guarantee there will be another opportunity to purchase a paver for a veteran you would like to honor. Stow-Glen site update: Tentative proposal includes a nursing home and apartments -- but council has to vote to rezone the property first
Every time we drive down Route 59 and pass the old Stow-Glen Retirement Village property, we wonder the same thing: What's going in there, and when? After all, Stow-Glen was closed so hastily in 2021 that dozens of residents were left with almost nowhere to go -- yet it has sat empty ever since.
Well, we're inching closer to getting the answer. The Akron Beacon Journal reported Jan. 24 that a tentative proposal for the three-parcel property would include an approximately 90-bed nursing home on one rear parcel, redeveloped apartments on the other rear parcel and a commercial operation on the front tract.
Following Stow-Glen's abrupt closure, the property at 4285 Kent Rd. was placed into the care of a receiver, Diversified Health Partners, by court order.
While DHP has been working to get the site ready for market, the City of Stow has been busy on its end with the zoning side of things: first, the property's boundaries had to be shifted; then, the planning commission recommended that city council rezone the property.
The next step: a first reading by council and the planning committee on the matter of rezoning at the Feb. 9 meeting. The issue requires three readings, and if council approves the rezoning of the property on March 13, site-plan proposals can start to be submitted.
So stay tuned.
