Stow keeps losing power because of grid infrastructure problems.

Today is Sept. 25, 2025.

  • Fall is here, and we’ve had the cooler, rainy weather the last few days to prove it. Today will be more of the same: Mostly cloudy with a couple of showers, a high of 73 and a low of 55. After today, though, we’re forecast to have another prolonged period of dry weather, with the possibility of rain not showing up until at least Oct. 5 — which should make those autumn colors pop.

  • AREA LEAF PICKUP SCHEDULES: Here are the upcoming fall leaf pickup schedules for Stow, Munroe Falls and Silver Lake: Stow: Oct. 27-Dec. 5; Munroe Falls: Oct. 27-Dec. 5; Silver Lake: Oct. 27-Nov. 30.

  • STOW SNOWPLOW ASSISTANCE: While leaf removal is front and center in our minds right now as fall begins, it’s not too early to starting thinking about snow removal as well — because it’ll be here before we know it. And to that end, the City of Stow is again offering its Snowplow Assistance Program, which provides driveway and sidewalk snow removal services to residents who are either elderly or disabled and are experiencing true hardship circumstances. Applications are available starting Tuesday, Sept. 30. Go here for more information.

  • SILVER LAKE JOB OPENINGS: The Village of Silver Lake is accepting applications for part-time Seasonal Leaf Workers and a full-time Service Worker. Go to this page for details. Applications may be dropped off at Silver Lake Village Hall at 2961 Kent Rd. or emailed, attention Ben Gregory, to [email protected].

14th Annual Candidates Night set for Sept. 30 at Acker-Moore Memorial Post

The Stow Citizens for Non-Partisan Politics group will host its annual Candidates Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Acker-Moore Memorial Post at 3733 Fishcreek Rd. in Stow. The event is open to the public.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening will feature candidates in several local races in the Nov. 4 General Election: Stow Municipal Court judge, Stow law director, Stow City Council (three at-large seats and four ward seats) and the Stow-Munroe Falls Board of Education (a special election for an unexpired seat and a regular election for two seats).

The format includes a two-minute introduction by each candidate, followed by questions prepared in advance by the Candidates Night committee. Each candidate will answer the same questions relevant to their office. Unopposed candidates will not answer any questions.

Here’s the lineup of candidates:

  • There are two candidates on the ballot for Stow Municipal Court judge: Amber Zibritosky, the city’s current clerk of courts, and Cynthia Curtin, who was appointed to the municipal court judge seat in June by Gov. Mike DeWine after the removal of former Judge Kim Hoover. Judges serve six-year terms.

  • Current Stow Law Director Drew Reilly is running unopposed and will serve a four-year term.

  • There are five candidates for the three Stow City Council at-large seats: Current Council President Cyle Feldman, Council Member Kyle Herman, Council Member Jeremy McIntire, Josh Wall and Kim Young.

  • All but one of city council’s four ward positions are uncontested this election cycle as Matt Riehl (Ward 1), John Baranek (Ward 3) and Mario Fiocca (Ward 4) are running unopposed. In Ward 2, the candidates are current Council Member Kelly Coffey and former Council Member Sindi Harrison, who was beaten for the position by Coffey in 2023. All Stow City Council seats are for two-year terms.

  • For Stow-Munroe Falls School Board, there are four candidates for two seats that will expire in four years: Current Board President Pamela Wind, former Board Member/Board President Jason Whitacre and two former educators, Kathrine Dannemiller and John Moyer. School board members serve four-year terms.

  • The other school board race is for an unexpired term that ends in 2027. The candidates are JoAnne Loparo and current Board Member Tina Merlitti, who was appointed to the position in January after the resignation of former Board President Nancy Binzel.

The City of Stow’s elections are non-partisan. Stow CNP, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has held a Candidates Night every year since its founding in 2011, with the exception of 2020.
